18/7/12 Welton Waters

Did Welton Waters Wednesday afternoon. Very few birds with 4 Common Terns including a juvenile on watersports pit the highlight.

However did better with dragonflies with a male Emperor over BAC and several Common Darters with damselflies along Common Lane.

Also a few Black-tailed Skimmers basking by “small pond”.

A few butterflies along Common Lane, mainly Ringlet and Meadow Browns but also a Comma and my 1st Gatekeeper.

17/7/12 Mainly Moths

.Swallow-tailed Moth

A few nice moths this morning including this Scalloped Oak and Swallow-tailed.

Also a Double Lobed which was a 1st for the garden.

Had a look at Swinemoor late morning but still no waders.

At Tophill Low NR bird wise only Green Sandpiper and the remaining Avocet chick on South Marsh East. Insect wise no new butterfly species have emerged but did have a few Six-spot Burnets,  Meadow Browns and a Comma.
